Though Activision calls Call of Duty: Mobile – Battle Royale a “standalone” mode from ‘s Blackout mode, it’s inevitably inspired by that experience, with similar rules, 100 player matches, and options for Solos, Duos, and Squad play.That said, the battle royale map now features even more famous locations from Call of Duty past, including the Modern Warfare series, while players will be able to choose between a first or third-person perspective at the start of each match.

Predictably, the footage seen in the video was a glimpse at Headquarters, not Zombies.For those who missed the memo on, it’s a 48-player social space that the game’s entire multiplayer suite funnels through. Not only will everyone approach NPCs to gather various online objectives and enter lobbies, but there will also be a few small mini-games too.

With that somewhat vain goal in mind, the third-person perspective makes a ton of sense. Players will want to make sure they look their best if they intend to make an impression in front of others. It’s the first time in franchise history that we’ll see a Call Of Duty mode in third-person, but that mode won’t be Zombies.In terms of Zombies mode, there’s only a little more we know beyond its Dead Space roots. Just like single-player, the co-op campaign will be rooted in historical events. Clues from the game’s teaser site suggest that Nazi failures during Operation Barbarossa and the Battle Of Dunkirk will push Hitler and his colleagues to create a Zombie virus for defense. That much was gleaned via clues found after the game’s unveiling in April.

Before working on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and now Sledgehammer Games was creating a third-person project in the blockbuster franchise.Sledgehammer co-founder Glen Schofield (which has a cover story on Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare) that the studio was about six to eight months into the third-person Call of Duty project, which was set during the Vietnam War. We were really getting into the story,' Schofield said. 'We had a big moment that I would love to get into a game someday, but it's not something we could do in first-person.' Regarding the project's setting, Schofield said that while everyone only thinks about Vietnam regarding the 1960s and '70s war, it was in Cambodia and Laos as well. 'We did a lot of research on that war,' explained Schofield, who helped create Dead Space. We were definitely going for some Dead Space moments. It was going to be a fresh take on war, that's for sure.'
Ultimately, about 15 minutes of the third-person Call of Duty project were playable after a half-year of development, and that's when Activision asked Sledgehammer if it was interested in helping out with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. The rest — as they say — is history.Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare is Sledgehammer's first solo project in the FPS series, and it's slated for a November 4 release on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
